A New Chapter:  Sustainable Multi-Generational Living on the Family Farm

At Oakenstone Design Planning Build, our mission is to seamlessly marry tradition and the highest quality workmanship with sustainable, modern methods and materials.

Nestled in the heart of an idyllic Peak District family farm, we are constructing a new home for our clients, allowing them to live independently, but close to family and grandchildren.  This project perfectly reflects our commitment to creating beautiful, bespoke, and environmentally responsible homes.

Embracing Tradition on the Outside

The new home will feature the traditional limestone rubble walls, so emblematic of the Peak District, combined with a strong block inner skin and superb levels of insulation.  These walls will not only provide a timeless aesthetic but will also offer excellent durability and thermal mass which will naturally help to regulate indoor temperatures.

Cutting-Edge Sustainability Inside

  1. Air Source Heat Pump:  To ensure the home is energy-efficient yet still comfortable, an air source heat pump will extract heat from the outside air,  keeping the home comfortably warm even in colder temperatures.  Generating more heat per KW hour than direct electrical heating, the heat pump is a sustainable and cost-effective year-round heating solution.
  2. Underfloor Heating:  Complementing the heat pump, underfloor heating is installed throughout the home.  Basically, underfloor heating turns the entire ground floor into one giant radiator, providing reliable, cosy warmth throughout the home and eliminating the need for wall mounted radiators.  We believe this system is superior in every way.  Underfloor heating can keep a room comfortably warm even at lower temperatures, plus it frees up wall space, expanding interior design and room layout possibilities, creating a cleaner, more modern interior.
  3. Solar Panels:  Using Solar Panels to harness the power of the sun, the home will generate its own electricity, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering energy bills.
  4. Super Insulated:  To maximize energy efficiency, the walls, roof, and floors will feature high levels of insulation to ensure minimal heat loss and optimal comfort all year-round.

A Family Legacy

The design of the home prioritizes comfort and accessibility.  Wide doorways, a single-story layout, and thoughtful placement of amenities will make daily life a breeze.  But this project is about more than a building;  it’s about family;  about independence and mutual support.

Oakenstone Design Planning Build is proud to be part of this family’s journey. By combining traditional techniques with modern sustainable practices, we are creating a home that honours the past whilst building a brighter, more sustainable future.

We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our latest project.  If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our work and approach, please get in touch.  We’d love to hear from you!

And stay tuned for more updates as we bring this vision to life.
