Richard has lived in the Derbyshire Dales almost all his life and practised as an architect in the area since gaining his degree in architecture in 1997. He has delivered many respected projects across the Peak District National Park and surrounding areas in that time.
An accomplished fell runner, the extraordinary landscape of the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales, in which Richard spends so many hours, inspires his passion for buildings that are sympathetic to their local environment and surroundings.
“Working within the topography of the local landscape, inside the Peak District National Park and often in areas of conservation brings its own challenges but also great inspiration.”
Richard is driven to create individual homes that are bespoke to the owner. Whether they be entirely new buildings, or extensions, or renovations he strives to create life enhancing spaces which are beautiful as well as functional, and connected to their surroundings.

Richard formally joined Oakenstone in 2018, after twenty years working with Dave and James as an architectural consultant. Combining the strengths of his architectural practice with Oakenstone’s design-led construction and management process has added a powerful extra dimension to Oakenstone’s work.
With the benefit of Richard’s 30 years’ experience as an architect and with full RIBA backing, Oakenstone is able to manage larger, more complex projects from inception to completion.
