A complete renovation with energy efficiency built in
This house was in such a poor state when we took over, it required a complete renovation including new floors, walls, staircase, roof and windows.
Extensive repairs and rebuilding, underfloor heating connected to an Air Source Heat Pump coupled with retrofit internal insulation transformed this turned this draughty old house.
Easy to heat with minimal cost and a stylish, comfortable home.
Location: Derbys/Staffs Borders
Project: Complete Renovation and Rebuild
This was a massive challenge. There was a sinkhole underneath the rear of the house, there were cracks in the external walls, bedrock where we needed to dig down, rotten timbers – you name it, it was going wrong in that building.
We rescued it, improved and preserved the building for years to come, and created a really special family home. The clients were delighted and I’m extremely proud of what we did for them.

A House Crying Out for Help
We knew from the our first visit that this was going to be a major undertaking.
This house was in such a poor state when we took over, it required complete renovation including new floors, walls, staircase, roof and windows.
Architect Richard Bradbury totally re-imagined the internal spaces. He added a loft conversion with two further bedrooms, and by joining the derelict barn at the rear to the existing building he was able to add more downstairs living space as well as a guest annex and shower room.

A House Transformed
A new parking area, retaining wall and garage to the front in addition to new quality wooden windows gave the old place a much needed facelift.

From Derelict...
Much of the old barn to the rear of the house, as well as the rear wall of the house itself, had to be carefully taken down and rebuilt.

... to Delightful
Linking the newly restored barn to the main house and installing modern, full height, glazed sliding doors transformed the rear of the home and created a beautiful private courtyard with views over the valley.

Internal Changes
The tired (exhausted!) old kitchen was taken out, an internal wall was removed, and the new larger space became a fantastic sitting room complete with log burner and oak beam.

The New Sitting Room
With natural light from three sides and underfloor heating maintaining a constant comfortable temperature, this room is cosy and welcoming at all times of the day and evening.

From Damp, Dark Cave...
We had to strip everything in the house back to the bare stone walls and exposed timber, in order to remove all the rotten and damaged components.
This dark room felt like a cave, damp and unwelcoming.

...to Clean and Gleaming Kitchen
New lighting, freshly plastered walls and ceiling, sparkling new kitchen units and Everhot Stove and have created a superb kitchen that is a delight to use.
